a Proposal to upgrade the computer system to
include adding mobile data terminals
SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND: The Police Department has used Sungard, Inc. Record Management and Computer-aided Dispatch
systems since 1991. This platform has
proven to be a reliable and stable structure for seventeen years. However, there have been many upgrades that
we have not been able to take advantage of due to the hardware limitations,
thereby making the system obsolete. The
current operating software is green screen technology and Sungard
has submitted a proposal with Windows based technology which will enhance our
efficiency and increase the productivity and flow of important information to
and from the field. It is my
recommendation to pursue this system upgrade as soon as approval is obtained.
