1.  Proclamation –MDA Forest Park Firefighter Appreciation       

Week

 

 SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND:  The Forest Park Fire Department is joining the fight against neuromuscular disease with a boot drive August 17th & 19th.  In order to highlight the contributions of the Forest Park Fire Department, Ms. Shelly Swannack, District Director of the Muscular Dystrophy Association has requested the Mayor proclaim the week of August 14, 2006, as “MDA Forest Park Firefighter Appreciation Week“ in Forest Park.  

 

2.      Consider an Ordinance by the City Council of the City of

Forest Park to transfer three thousand eight hundred and eighty seven dollars ($3,887.00) from the Ward 5 Project Account to the Street Maintenance Account for the Placement of Drainage Pipe and grates on the right-of-way on Patricia Drive and Dorsey Drive; and for other purposes

 

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND:  The south side of Patricia Drive between Dorsey Drive and Shellnut Drive has a deep drainage ditch that is in need of piping. Councilman Lord would like to use part of his line item under Ward 5 Projects (#100-20-1110-52-3912) in the amount of $3887.00 to cover the costs of materials for the completion of this project.  Under Sec. 5-3-2 all right-of-way projects in excess of $2,500 should have approval of Mayor and Council.   

 

3.      Consider an Ordinance by the City Council for the City of

Forest Park, Georgia, to authorize the Mayor to execute an amendment to the Contract with EDAW, Inc. providing for professional planning services related to the “Farmers Market and Transportation Improvement Project” so as to extend the term and completion date for said contract through October 27, 2006; to provide that the lump sum amount provided for in the existing contract shall remain the same; to provide that all other terms and conditions of the contract, other than the term and completion date, shall remain the same; to provide for severability; to repeal all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith; to provide an effective date; and for other purposes  

 

4.      Consider an Ordinance by the City Council for the City of

Forest Park, Georgia, to provide for an amendment to the Franchise granted to the Georgia Power Company by an Ordinance adopted on or about March 1, 1976, so as to specify certain terms and conditions for the relocation, upon the request or demand of the City, of Georgia Power Company’s Distribution Facilities from their existing locations within or upon the City’s Streets, right-of-ways, alleys and other public places of the City; to provide for an extension of the term of the Franchise to March 11, 2031; to provide for severability; to repeal all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith; to provide an effective date; and for other purposes    

 

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND:  This Ordinance provides for two amendments to the 1976 franchise granted to Georgia Power Company for the use of the City’s streets, right- of- ways, alleyways, etc. One amendment provides for terms under which Georgia Power can be required to relocate its distribution facilities by the City, and the other provides for an extension of the franchise to March 11, 2031.  This proposed amendment is a standard agreement which was negotiated with Georgia Power by the Georgia Municipal

Association.       

 

5.      Consider an Ordinance by the City Council for the City of

Forest Park, Georgia, to amend Ordinance No. 05-24, as amended, establishing the “Forest Park/Fort Gillem Planning Local Redevelopment Authority” (“The LRA”) so as to designate the Mayor and City Council for the City of Forest Park, Georgia as the Board of Directors for the LRA; to provide that the LRA Board of Directors shall appoint a Chairman of the LRA to serve as the seventh member of the Board under the terms and conditions provided herein; to grant certain powers and authority to the LRA Board of Directors; to provide for severability; to repeal all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith; to provide an effective date; and for other purposes 

 

6.      Appointments to Zoning Appeals Board

 

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND:  There are two vacancies on the Zoning Appeals Board.  These terms are for a period of five years.
