REGULAR MEETING OF MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF JULY 19, 2010
Call to Order: The Regular Meeting of Mayor and Council of July 19, 2010 was called to order by Mayor Corine Deyton at 7:00 p.m.
Invocation: The invocation was given by Councilwoman Maudie McCord followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag.
Roll Call: Mayor Corine Deyton, Mayor Pro-tem Sparkle Adams, Councilman Donald Judson and Councilwomen Karen-Brandee Williams, Maudie McCord and Linda Lord.
Also present were City Manager John Parker, Director of Finance Mike Blandenburg, Director of Planning, Building and Zoning Steve Pearson, Director of Support Services Christine Terrell, Director of Public Works Mike Gippert, Director of Recreation and Leisure Services Elaine Corley, Chief Eddie Buckholts, Major Chris Matson, Management Analyst Angela Redding and City Attorney Joe Harris.
Approval of Mr. Judson made a motion to approve the minutes of the Work
Minutes: Session of July 6th and the Regular Meeting of July 6th, seconded by Ms. Adams. Voting for the motion was unanimous.
Comment Period: Ms. Christine Ellington spoke. She stated she is here concerning an occasion that happened in her neighborhood on June 23rd. The home next door to her has been abandoned since December and mentioned that she was concerned the grass was overgrown and its overall appearance. On June 23rd, she found a man on the property stealing and called the police. She stated he was arrested and because he was breaking in the property, the officers responded. She stated the officer said due to the look of the property and the grass, that a lot of times they have to do a field service. She stated the next day a service called Quick Turn Around, came out, cleaned up, cut the grass and secured the doors. She stated she could not understand how the City could not get this done prior to the break-in.
Mr. Darnell Moorer stated he was representing the Forest Park Civic League. He stated his reason for coming is to put all of the council Members on notice that the Forest Park Civic League
plans to hold you accountable as elected officials during your next three years of tenure. He stated we will be watching you because we want good representation. He stated we need you to put your agenda together because we will be contacting you because we want to know what you plan to do.
Comments by Ms. Adams stated the Teen Council Meeting will be held
Governing Body: tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m.
Ms. Williams stated her next ward meeting will be on July 31st at 11 a.m.
Ms. McCord
thanked the Ministers Association, Public Works, Fire Department, Police Department, Council Members, AmeriCorps,
Ms. Adams stated the Ward 4 Clean-Up will be on August 14th.
Adjournment: Ms. Adams made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Ms. Lord. Voting for the motion was unanimous.
