SPECIAL MEETING OF
MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF
Call to Order: The Special Meeting of Mayor
and Council was called to order by Mayor Charles Hall
at
Present: Mayor Charles Hall, Mayor Pro-tem H. H. Estes, Councilmen Donald Judson, Wesley Lord and Councilwoman Debbie Youmans.
Also present was Finance Director Mike Blandenburg.
Public Hearing: Mayor Hall recessed the meeting to open a public hearing to receive comments on the property tax increase due to an increase in property assessments.
Mr. Blandenburg stated there will be a 1.59% increase as a result of property reassessments in the amount of 5.2 million dollars, the increase for the City is approximately $30,000 from these reassessments.
Mayor Hall asked if there was anyone present to speak.
Ms. Sparkle Adams spoke concerning the homestead exemption allowed for citizens.
Other various members of the audience spoke.
Mayor Hall closed the Public Hearing.
Mayor Hall opened the Public Hearing to receive comments on the property tax increase due to an increase in the millage rate.
Mr. Blandenburg stated this is the first of three public hearings required to increase the millage rate. He stated the City is considering a 1 mill increase from 5.593 to 6.593 mills, which will generate approximately $400,000 of tax revenue. This increase is proposed for employee raises and major roof repairs to City buildings.
Mayor Hall asked if there was anyone present to speak.
Mr. Bobby Simmons asked for an explanation of the millage increase.
