REGULAR MEETING OF MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF AUGUST 5, 2008

 

 

 

Call to Order:               The Regular Meeting of Mayor and Council of August 5, 2008 was called to order by Mayor Corine Deyton at 7:00 p.m.

 

Invocation:                    The invocation was given by Bishop A. D. Williams of the Word of Deliverance Ministries followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag.

 

Roll Call:                      Present were Mayor Corine Deyton, Mayor Pro-tem Sparkle Adams, Councilman Donald Judson and Councilwomen Linda Lord and Maudie McCord.

 

                                    Also present were City Manager John Parker, Asst. Director of Finance Joyce Whitfield, Director of Public Works Mike Gippert, Director of Planning, Building and Zoning Steve Pearson, Director of Support Service Christine Terrell, Deputy Director of Recreation and Leisure Services Sharon Smith, Chief Eddie Buckholts, Major Reynolds, and Joe Harris City Attorney.

 

Approval of minutes:     Ms. Adams made a motion to approve the minutes of the Work Session of Mayor and Council of July 21, 2008 and the Regular Meeting of Mayor and Council of July 21, 2008, seconded by Ms. Lord.  Voting for the motion was unanimous.

 

Comments:                   Darnell Moorer gave an update of the clean-up sponsored by the Forest Park Ministers Association on July 26th.  He stated the clean up was very successful. They cleaned  6 to 7 streets and they are looking forward to the Ward 5 Clean-Up.

 

                                    Ms. Adams stated she appreciated the Forest Park Ministers Association for their help.  She said this shows the City is trying to do something and everyone should take ownership of their property. 

 

Resolution:                    Request was made to consider a Resolution by the City Council of the City of Forest Park authorizing the Mayor to execute a License Agreement with South West Atlanta Christian Academy for the use of Kiwanis Stadium and Concession Stand for the date of August 29th, October 17th, 31st, and November 7, 2008 to conduct football games in their Regional 5-A Varsity Football Program; to provide for severability; to provide an effective date; and for other purposes.

 

                                    Mr. Judson made a motion to approve the Resolution, seconded by Ms. Lord.  Voting for the motion was unanimous.

 

Comments:                   Mr. Parker gave an update of the Main Street Streetscape Program.  He stated work has begun on putting the power lines underground.  He stated within six weeks the poles between Oak Street and Ash Street should be removed.  He also stated all right-of-way have been signed except one. 

 

                                    Mr. Judson expressed his appreciation for the flowers, cards and support he has received at his wife’s death.

 

                                    Ms. Lord reminded everyone to vote tomorrow.  She stated there will be a Southside Neighborhood Watch Meeting at the Police Department at 7 p.m. on August 5th.               

 

                                    Mayor Deyton reminded everyone of the Centennial Celebration on August 14, 15 and 16th.

 

Adjournment:                Mr. Judson made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Ms. McCord.  Voting for the motion was unanimous.

 

                                    The motion adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
