SPECIAL MEETING OF MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF SEPTEMBER 1, 2005

 

 

 

 

Call to Order:                 The Special Meeting of Mayor and Council of September 1, 2005 was called to order by Mayor Charles Hall at 10:00 a.m.

 

Present:                         Mayor Charles Hall, Mayor Pro-tem H. H. Estes, Councilmen Wesley Lord, Donald Judson and Councilwoman Debbie Youmans.

 

                                      Also present was Finance Director Mike Blandenburg and Director of Support Services Christine Terrell.

 

                                      Mayor Hall presented the following ordinances for discussion:

 

1.     Ordinance authorizing an increase in the Monthly Compensation to the Mayor, pursuant to City Charter Section 2.14 from one thousand two hundred dollars per month to one thousand six hundred dollars per month and to increase the number of hours worked per year; to provide for an effective date; and for other purposes

 

It was discussed that this Ordinance increases the hours worked to a minimum of twenty hours per week.     

 

 

2.     Ordinance amending City Code Section 2-1-32 Annual Compensation and Monthly Expense Allowance for the Mayor to authorize an increase in the monthly expense allowance to the Mayor from two hundred fifty dollars to three hundred fifty dollars per month; to provide an effective date; and for other purposes

 

3.     Ordinance by the Members of the City Council to authorize an increase in the monthly salary for the City Council members from eight hundred dollars per month to one thousand dollars per month; to provide an effective date; and for other purposes

 

4.     Ordinance amending City Code Section 2-1-33 Compensation and monthly expenses of members of the City Council to authorize an increase in the monthly expense allowance for the City Council members from one hundred fifty dollars to two hundred fifty dollars per month; to provide an effective date; and for other purposes  

 

5.     Ordinance requesting that the Mayor and Council of the City of Forest Park, Georgia, amend the Pay Plan to raise each salary range by five percent (5%) and for other lawful purposes

 

6.     Ordinance to appropriate funds for Wage and Salary Adjustments

 

                                      It was discussed that the increase to raise the pay ranges and increase for wage and salary adjustments would come from the 1 mill tax increase.  It was also discussed that that increase for Mayor and Council Salary and Expenses would come from the current budget with no additional funds allocated. 

 

                                      Ms. Youmans requested a list of current and proposed salary ranges. 

 

                                      Ms. Youmans suggested a Work Session to discuss where we are in the budget.  It was suggested that a Work Session be held in October to go over the first two months.

 

                                      Mr. Judson inquired to the legality of using Council Ward money to donate to help the hurricane victims.  Mayor Hall stated he would address this with the City Attorney.

 

Adjournment:                Mr. Estes made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Mr. Lord.  Voting for the motion was unanimous.
