DEPARTMENT OF RECREATION AND LEISURE SERVICES

WHAT’S HAPPENING!

Public Swimming – The indoor pool was open to the public on Tuesday and Thursday 7pm-9pm; and Saturday 1pm-4pm.

Water Exercise – Our Recreation and Leisure Services offer two water exercise classes.  One is held on Monday and Wednesday 1pm-2pm; the second one is on Monday and Wednesday at 6pm.  These classes are very popular with participants that have limited movement and those that just enjoy exercising in the water.  The classes are held in the heated indoor pool.

Lift Your Body – On Tuesday and Thursday at 12noon, J.R. Pierre, one of our recreation supervisors, instruct participants in a very intense floor exercise class known as Lift Your Body.  The class incorporates boxing, aerobics, step aerobics, weightlifting and jogging in a forty-five minute workout.  Participants thoroughly enjoy it. The class meets at 12:15pm.

Yoga – On Wednesday evening Mr. Wesley White guides participants through a soothing yoga workout.  Then everyone spends an hour and fifteen minutes learning movements to help de-stress the intensive workday.  This class is held at 6:45pm.

Community-Wide Yard Sale – The Forest Park Recreation Department held its annual Spring Community-Wide Yard Sale on April 3, 2010.  There was much fanfare and enthusiasm as always.  With over a hundred spaces rented, multitudes of  people came to enjoy the spring cleaning process. The sun was shining and it was a perfect day for bargain hunting.  Whether you were looking for home appliances, paintings, clothing, or lawn tools – this was the place to be.   There were even trinkets like yo-yo’s and video games which took you back to your childhood days.  Some made excellent deals with tools, shelves for their homes and garages, and others still found knick-knacks at ridiculously low prices.  Name brand clothing flew off the shelves and tables, while the kids found toys and sports paraphernalia to keep them smiling.  It was another great day at the park!  Proving over and over – “One man’s junk is another man’s treasure.”

The Recreation Department started league play in the following athletic programs:  T-Ball, Pee Wee Ball, Soccer, Girls Softball, Girls Basketball, Teen Weight Lifting and Adult Basketball.  Spring Athletics in Forest Park is off to a great start in 2010.
