WHAT’S HAPPENING!
Due to Special Events scheduled
the month of December including the City Run-off Election, City BBQ, the 17th
Annual Christmas Parade that was postponed until December 7th,
maintenance and repairs, there were limited athletic and programs held this
month.
Youth Basketball – Draft was held on December 5, 2009 for ages
3-16 year old boys and girls. There were
a total of 30 teams with eight children per team, total of 240
participants. Practices were held in the
gym starting at 6pm week nights and 9am on Saturdays. Games will start January 9, 2010.
Public Swimming – The indoor pool was open to the public on
Tuesday and Thursday 7pm-9pm; and Saturday 1pm-4pm.
Swim Lessons – Swimming lessons were taught on Saturdays
starting at 11 a.m. There was a beginners’ class and a preschool
water orientation class. Total of 16
participants.
Gym Use – 200 for the month of December 2009
Calls From Santa – “Here
comes Santa Claus, Here comes Santa Claus…”
Well, not exactly, but the little ones did get a treat before
Christmas. It has come to our attention
that some of the boys and girls of
It has been
said that the little ones were very receptive to his calls wishing them a Merry
Christmas and that there was no shortage of jubilee on their part. In addition, they made sure to tell him
exactly what they would like (in great detail, I might add) underneath the tree
this Christmas. Not surprisingly, their
lists included lots of gadgets such as I-Pods, video games, DS’s and the like. If nothing else, Jolly Old Saint Nick’s gift
list may be a bit pricier than bicycles and fire trucks, but at least his load
will be a bit lighter as well.
Pictures With Santa – Forest Park Recreation held its annual
‘Pictures With Santa’ event on December 4, 2009 6pm-8pm at the Senior
Center. The picture packages were $15
and included 1-5x7, 1-5x3, 4 wallets, and a button. Parents were also allowed to bring their own
camera for pictures as well. Santa gave
out candy to each child that bought a picture package and encouraged them to
come see him at ‘Breakfast with Santa’ the following week. Overall, we sold 9 packages that evening.
Breakfast With Santa – Forest Park Recreation held its annual ‘Breakfast
with Santa’ on December 12, 2009 at the Senior center 8 am-10 am. The cost was $1 for kids and $2 for adults
and included pancakes, sausage and gravy biscuits, orange juice and milk. Santa was there and interacted with the kids
that came. He took pictures; they sat on
his lap, asked for gifts and enjoyed playing with other kids. We had approximately 50 kids with families
that attended. There were no long lines
or a long wait and the pancakes were flipped by Forest Park Mayor Corine
Deyton.

* December was a very
busy month. We started BY decorating for Christmas and ended by
decorating for the New Year. However, in
between we all had fun.
* Special Holiday Bingo
with mostly holiday prizes to a give-a-way day with ribbons, paper, and odd
gifts.
* We had a covered dish
with a lot of Christmas treats, then out to our Mystery Lunch at Shane’s
followed by a great Christmas Dinner.
The Forest Park Senior High Orchestra entertained us during our dinner.
The Seniors provided great food for the evening.
* Our programs were very
active during the month. Cards were
played at 3-4 tables each week, dominoes has increased to 2 tables. Exercise, dancing, crafts were a little
quieter. A lot of the seniors were off
to their families’ homes.
* We ended December with
our New Year’s Breakfast. Everyone
enjoyed it. We all celebrated 2010 and the new year was a great climax to a good
year.

DEPARTMENT OF
ADMINISTRATION / FINANCE
Expenditures (preliminary totals) for the General Fund for the month of December are $1,871,012 or 9.36% of the budget. Year-to-date preliminary expenditures for the General Fund are $8,519,542 or 42.63% of the budget (fiscal year July 2009 – June 2010). For comparison purposes, the period of July through December represents 50.00% of the budget year. Total expenditures for the General Fund remain under budget for the for the six month period of July through December.
Local Option Sales Tax revenue received in December is $420,532, compared to $505,588 for December of the prior year. The fiscal year-to-date total received is $2,515,059 or 48.37% of the budget. The percentage of the budget year through December is 50.00% of the year; therefore, revenue from Local Option Sales Tax remains slightly less than budget through December.
The due date for payment of 2009 property taxes was December 20. Approximately $2,800,000 of collections had been posted to the accounting system by December 31.
This amount does not represent all tax collections. A substantial additional amount of property taxes were collected but not posted to the accounting system as of December 31.
